It has been a while since I returned from Argentina. Many of you know that the first 4-6 weeks I was rather busy with Henk (Dad) in the hospital. The good news about that is that after 7 months of hospitals, Henk recently returned to Rwanda, and is busy as ever, although 'walking' with his orthopaedic shoes will still be challenging.
After those first weeks I started orienting myself on the labor market again. And chose to apply for jobs in learning and development especially in international organisations, such as Unicef, Care, UNHCR, to name a few. It is interesting applying for jobs these days. It mainly consists of "Click here to apply" followed by some Web form where you either have to copy your whole CV or you can attach one. If you are lucky, you get a response that your materials are received. There's always the clause that only those shortlisted will be notified. So basically you are operating in a vacuum. Then some of these organisations are so slow that you are invited for an interview 2 months after your letter and receive notice that you did not get the jobs three months after that.
Anyway, just before the summer I decided to decline an offer from a large car parts firm to lead their European management training, in favour of interviewing with a very nice small global nature conservation organisation, operating from Washington DC. After 4 interviews it became silent, and the last thing I heard is that they will continue the process soon, and I am still a serious candidate ... That was 4 weeks ago, so after a summer where there were hardly any other vacancies, I started applying for jobs again. And there's some interesting opportunities, so I have good hopes :)
In the mean time, I try not to get too bored. Am doing some voluntary work through an organisation called LiNGOs. And in order to be able to do some freelance work, I registered my business:

For the rest I keep myself busy with staying fit in the gym a few times a week. Being a substitute percussionist in my former orchestra. And spending some time in Niels (brother) bars. Störtebeker has been sold this spring, so there's only The Stage and The Move. And I would say that is quite enough :)
